As we are getting our heads around being more serious about travel writing and sharing our experiences of both near and far, I have come across some really great role models. These writers, photographers and bloggers  inspire and encourage us to believe that our dream of travelling as a lifestyle is possible, with lots of planning, dedication and focus.

Here are some brilliant examples:

  • Uncornered Market: Daniel Noll and Audrey Scott are the husband-and-wife storytelling and photography team behind Uncornered Market. They have been travelling for over 6 years.
  • Don George is an editor at large at National Geographic Traveler magazine and the author of Lonely Planet’s Guide to Travel Writing.
  • Legal Nomads: Author, soup expert and former lawyer from Montreal Jodi Ettenberg, has been eating her way around the world since 2008.
  • A Little Adrift: Shannon O’Donnell, launched  A Little Adrift as a way to share her journey, as well as sharing the hows and whys for others feeling adrift and looking for a change in their lives.
  • The Vacation GirlsThe Vacation Gals are three professional travel writers — and moms of children ranging in age from 7 to 14 — who enjoy sharing favorite destinations for family trips, girlfriend getaways and romantic escapes with readers.
  • Travel Writing 2.0 is a book and blog by Tim Leffel. This travel writing blog site aims to be the most definitive, detailed guide to success in the digital age. It achieves that through the stories and advice from working writers, authors, and bloggers who travel.Find Tim on Twitter @TimLeffel

Another great resource for aspiring travel writers is The Travel Writing Guide on the Transitions Abroad website. It has lots of really useful information and articles are authored by a range of well known travel writers including Tim Leffel and Rolf Potts.

This is just a small sample of some of the amazing travel writers and bloggers out there. It is fantastic to see that people can travel as a lifestyle, learning about the many incredible places and cultures, and sharing their experiences with the world.
